General information

Steel pipes are among the most popular in the construction market. In everyday life, they are most often used for the construction of gas pipelines, water supply and heating systems. They have a diverse shape, and according to the production method are divided into two large groups – welded and seamless. For the manufacture of seamless products, rolling, forging and drawing are used. Recently, to protect against corrosion, steel pipes are coated with metal (most often – zinc), polymer, etc. both outside and inside.

Classification by production method:
– welded:
– straight-seam:
– round section;
– electric welded rectangular section,
square, oval and other section;

– electrowelded spiral-seam;
– seamless:
– cold-deformed;
– hot deformed.

Longitudinal electric welded – Standard and Sizes

welded straight-line pipes are made in accordance with GOST 10704-91;
the standard sizes of steel pipes are regulated by the standard: outer diameter from
10 to 1420 millimeters, wall thickness from 1 to 32 millimeters;
pipes with a diameter of up to 426 millimeters are produced unmeasured and measured
lengths; large diameter pipes over 426 mm are produced only unmeasured
lengths;
possibly the production of pipes with reinforced seam; in this case, their manufacture
another standard already regulates – GOST 10706.
Water and gas

water and gas pipes are produced according to GOST 3262-75;
in this case, the pipes are allocated in a separate standard, not due to the fact that somehow
special manufactured, and by virtue of its scope; from point of view
VGP pipe production – these are ordinary longitudinal welded electric welded pipes. them

the standard sizes of steel pipes within this standard are as follows: outer diameter
from 10.2 mm to 165 mm; wall thickness from 1.8 to 5.5 mm;
pipes are produced light, ordinary and reinforced. they differ as
times the wall thickness;
pipes for water and gas pipelines are made measured and unmeasured lengths in
range from 4 to 12 meters;
The standard provides for the production of galvanized pipes.

Seamless hot deformed – Standard and Sizes

hot-deformed seamless pipes are made according to standard gost 8732-
78;
production method allows to produce pipes with a very significant
wall thickness, which we observe: steel pipe dimensions
hot deformed have from 20 to 550 mm with a wall thickness of 2.5 to
an impressive 75 millimeters;
pipes can be produced in unmeasured lengths from 4 to 12.5 meters or measured
lengths within the same range.

Seamless cold formed – Standard and Sizes

cold-deformed (cold-rolled) pipes are produced according to GOST 8734-75;
According to the standard, cold-rolled steel pipe dimensions are as follows:
outer diameter from 5 to 250 millimeters, wall thickness from 0.3 to 24 mm;
distinguish especially thick-walled, thick-walled, thin-walled and especially
thin-walled pipes. the determining factor when enrolling the pipe in one of
grades is the ratio of its outer diameter and wall thickness. in addition, for pipes with a diameter of less than 20 mm, the absolute value of the wall thickness is also taken into account;
pipes are made in unmeasured lengths from 1.5 to 11.5 meters or measured

from 4.5 to 9 meters long.

Profile pipes
This is a type of steel pipe, which has a square or rectangular cross-section of different sizes and weights of 1 meter linear. Profile rolling is carried out by deformation of sheet metal during the passage of a calibration mill with subsequent welding of the longitudinal joint. Ukrainian factories have established various specifications for sizes, steel grades and section sizes for square and rectangular pipes ranging from 15×15 to 450×350 mm. The wall thickness can reach 12 mm, and the length can vary from 6 to 12 meters, depending on the technical conditions of the manufacturer or GOST.
